Today I needed to give feedback to one of my team (my “team” is currently just me and one other person 😄).
I was nervous as I didn’t want to come across as overly-critical. The last thing I’d want to do is ruin someone’s day because of a careless comment.
So after spending a bit of time thinking about what and I how I should write this feedback I sent it through.
After we worked out the problem I wondered to myself if I had managed to give good feedback or, if as I had feared, I had merely come across as critical. So on a whim I typed in the chat:
“Great. Okay, now feedback on my feedback… Is there anything I could have done/said differently then?”
She then sent me through a short paragraph of her own feedback of the conversation.
I thought this was such a great exercise, both to help me as a business owner get better at giving feedback, and also for encouraging my team (even if it is just one person right now) to give me feedback on my behaviour and actions too.
Love your posts and emails, thank you
