You’ve Outgrown the Way You Work
Your business still works, but it’s just not scratching that itch like it used to.
Maybe the clients are good, the income is steady and you’ve got systems that mostly do what they need to do. On paper, there’s not necessarily a big problem. But the way you’ve built the business no longer fits you as well as it once did.
What used to feel exciting or satisfying can start to feel repetitive, restrictive or just a bit stale. This can happen because you may be more experienced now, your priorities may have changed, or you may simply want your work to look different.
The tricky part is that there’s often no obvious reason to change anything when the business is still doing its job.
The Signs
You might notice things like:
- You’re probably great at what you do, but you don’t feel as interested in it as you used to.
- You find yourself daydreaming about blowing up your business and doing something completely different.
- Your business is a bit like Frankenstein’s monster where you add new services, classes and programs and keep running them forever even when they’re not as popular anymore
- You’ve started feeling envious of people who seem to work in a different way to you.
- You have clients or services you’d probably stop tomorrow if money wasn’t part of the decision.
- You feel a bit guilty at the idea of changing something that is technically still working.
- You often have to psych yourself up to do the things that need doing in your business.
Reflection Questions
Here are 3 journaling questions that make a good starting point for working through this problem:
- What are 3 things you’d love to stop doing in your business or work?
- In your line of work, what are 3 things you’re pretty good at, 3 things you’re amazing at and 1 thing that you’re better at than most people you know. Allow yourself a little vanity on this one.
- What would need to be different for you to give yourself permission to try something new?
Next Steps
Realising you’ve outgrown the way you work doesn’t mean you need to blow the whole business up.
Usually, the better place to start is getting clearer on what you want to keep, what you want less of and what you might want to make more room for.
- Starting tomorrow, I’ll send you a short 4 email series on your problem, with some suggestions on how to move through this stage of your business and start reshaping it around where you are now.
- If you’d like more direct help from me in working through this, we could work together 1:1. This is the main way I help clients. I have a few spots available at the moment. If you’re interested, enquire here and we’ll catch up for a free chat.
