You Need More Breathing Room

You probably feel like you’re constantly falling behind and letting others down, no matter how hard you scramble.

Clients. Messages. Admin. Staff. Family. Ideas. Decisions. Things you meant to follow up three weeks ago.

When you’re constantly moving between all of that, even simple decisions can start taking more effort than it feels they should. And the bigger decisions about your business rarely get your time and attention.

The Signs

You might notice things like:

  • You finish a busy day wondering what you actually got done.
  • Your brain keeps reminding you of things at inconvenient times (like right when you lay down to bed).
  • You’re constantly switching between different types of work and personal activities.
  • Making even small decisions takes up more energy than it used to.
  • You have a lot of half-finished jobs, tabs, notes and ideas floating around.
  • Whenever you make some space to think, something else quickly fills it.
  • You know there are things you should probably stop, delegate or simplify, but you haven’t had time to work out which ones.
  • You find yourself craving a few quiet days just to get your head around everything.

Reflection Questions

Here are 3 journaling questions to help create some breathing room:

(I know, like you need another thing to do right now. Forget journaling and just take a minute or two to think about them.)

  1. How much time each week are you spending outdoors?
  2. What are the things you need to say (to your partner/clients/family/obligations) that are not being said?
  3. When you were a teenager, what kinds of things did you like to do for fun or in your spare time?

Next Steps

I won’t add more to your plate. The main thing you’re needing is some space to step back.

There is that old saying ‘you can’t read the label from inside the jar’. Right now you’re inside the jar bouncing around. You need a chance to get outside and get some perspective.

Here are a couple of ways I can help:

  1. Starting tomorrow, I’ll send you a short 4 email series with some ideas for creating more room, simplifying what’s on your plate and working out what actually deserves your attention.
  2. If you’d like more direct help working through this, you could try me on as your coach. This is the main way I help clients. I have a few spots available at the moment. If you’re interested, enquire here and we’ll catch up for a free chat.
