Last year I traveled across the US, from Portland, OR to the Catskills in New York state. I was headed to a viagra online pharmacy with 250 strangers.
Let me tell you more.
This guy, Jonathan Fields, was running it as part of an online show called the cheap generic overnight viagra. On his show Jonathan had interviewed people like how long for amoxicillin to take effect, Seth Godin, Scott Dinsmore, Marie Forleo and Leo Babauta about what it means to them to live a good life. Hanging out with people like that, I figured there must be something special about this guy. The summer camp they put on was a chance to get away, hang out with some cool people and tap back into what it meant to us to live a good life ourselves.
I had a blast (and first starting pulling the threads on this project) and so naturally when they announced they were putting it on again in 2015 I signed up to come back.
This year Jonathan and the other organisers have thrown down a challenge for us to do before camp (which is 20 days away at the time of writing this). They have asked us to try and think of ways we can contribute to our vitality, connection and contribution buckets.
Wait, what’s this about buckets? I hear you say. I’ll explain.
Following dozens of interviews with people living their Good Life, Jonathan realised something these people have in common. They all regularly make deposits in three areas (or buckets) of their life.
- Vitality – improving the health of the body and mind
- Connection – giving and receiving love, creating belonging, connection to the world around us
- Contribution – giving back to the world with your unique gifts
After he read the challenge, my good friend Toku, who is also attending camp this year, called me with an awesome idea. It’s that idea I would now like to invite you to join me on in whatever capacity you feel comfortable.
20 Days of I Love You Man Notes
The challenge is simple, over the next 20 days (including today) we are going to write one short note to a man in our lives that we love, telling them we love them and what it is about them we love.
If the word love is freaking you out a little, that’s OK. It kinda freaks me out just writing this, I’m still getting used to the idea of being able to feel platonic love for another man.
When I think about a man I love these days, I don’t mean a man I want to marry, I just mean a guy in my life who I really appreciate or appreciate some aspect of them.
Love is given in every small act of kindness we do each day. You have men in your life you love right now, possibly without even realising it, and that’s kind of the point in this challenge.
How you complete this challenge is completely up to you. Here are a few things I’m going to do:
- Hand written notes are really special. I will try to hand write each note, if it’s not feasible I’ll send it via email.
- These will be love notes, not love letters. Short and sweet and to the point. ‘I love you and this is why…’
- If I miss a day, I will do two the next day.
Toku and I will be messaging each other after we’ve completed the challenge each day, come join us by commenting below if you are interested.
